Pre-Use and Annual Inspection
Client: Merlin Entertainments
The British Airways i360 is a 162m tall steel observation tower. It is located at the root end of the derelict Brighton West Pier. The foundations are founded on chalk, with the machine room below beach level. A main sewer had to be diverted in order to position the foundation. The base building is a single storey reinforced concrete frame and flat slab founded on piles driven into the chalk.
The Attraction Safety Team were commissioned to complete the Pre-Use Inspection of the gondola, control system and drive system, which meant a full design review, assessment of conformity and commissioning testing, working alongside Poma the manufacturer to deliver a fully compliant and certified device.
Since the inception of the device the Team have been engaged to carry out the 3rd party review of the modifications to the control system as well as the annual inspections in compliance with the ADIPS process.
