WESTLAKES ENGINEERING ARE RECRUITING

We are recruiting for an EXPERIENCED ENGINEER, with a passion for technical work and mentoring of our junior engineers, to join our Nuclear Team in the Cumbria Office, based at Westlakes Science Park.

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION

Essential

• Honours Degree (or equivalent) in Civil and Structural Engineering.
• Chartered or Incorporated Membership Engineer (ICE or IStructE) or progressing towards Chartered Engineer Status.
• Minimum of 10 + years relevant experience according to grade.
• A flexible attitude to the type of work undertaken and the level of responsibility given.
• Familiarity with current design standards and current practices.
• Strong Technical and Communication Skills.

Desirable

• Good working knowledge of design software packages (e.g. STAAD Pro, Revit & Tedds).
• Previous experience in the Nuclear industry.
• Previous experience in British Standards.
• Experience in US or other foreign codes.
• A background in Steel and Reinforced Concrete Design and Assessment.
• Experience of assessment of structures using approaches outside normal code methods.

 Responsibilities

• Lead medium sized teams on technically complex projects.
• Working as part of a team of engineers on technical design works including Checking, Approval, providing advice and assisting with technical directors to deliver work packages.
• Developing graduate engineers by offering support and advice.
• Working with our design team to produce relevant civil and structural design information.
• Committed to the successful delivery of projects, meeting the needs of our clients, the development of the team and business as a whole.

Additional

• Based at our Head Office at Whitehaven, you may be required to travel to other company and client sites may be necessary.
• Successful candidates will be required to undergo a security vetting process and offers of employment will be subject to relevant security clearance being granted.
• Hours are flexible, but with core hours of 10am to 3pm Monday to Friday.
• A full driver’s licence would be an advantage.

• Strong numerical skills

We are recruiting for a CIVIL STRUCTURAL DESIGNER to join our Team in the Cumbria Office based at Westlakes Science Park.

The position would be at Technician grade or above, dependant on experience and/or qualifications.

Flexible, hybrid working may be considered.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Production of working drawings for the main construction materials.
• Ensuring compliance with client specifications and engineering standards
• Participate in Design Reviews ensuring that subsequent design meets the project requirements
• Undertake CS site surveys
• Produce sketches or drawings produced to support the survey work
• Ensuring the confidentiality and security of data and information received from clients
• Liaise with the Engineers to ensure effective project delivery to time and cost
• Liaise with the client throughout the design process.
• Working within a small design team.
• Independent checking of drawing packages.

CANDIDATE SPECIFICATION

• Minimum 3 years relevant civil structural working experience, preferably within the nuclear sector.
• Educated to ONC or OND or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline
• Knowledge of Revit and 3D AutoCAD packages.
• Due to security requirements candidates must be eligible to apply for security clearance. The ideal candidate will currently be SC cleared
